7 Disney Animated Film Eras Ranked!

Disney animated film have gone through a lot of change and transition over the years. Thus resulting in eras from critics and fans alike.
How did I come to the conclusion of ranking these films you may ask? Well let me enlighten you. I ranked every film from 1 to 5 stars and then averaged that by the number of films in that era.
I took what most people seem to agree on as an era. There is always debate: "The Princess and the Frog" is often split on opinion of Experimental or Revival era. I chose Revival because I think it fits better in that era. Also some people say that the Bronze era can be split into 2; but, that makes both eras very short.

Let's rank these eras, here we go!
_____________________________________________________
7- Wartime- (1942-1949) 2.5/5

(Salduos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time and The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad)

Don't think because I said this is the worst era I dont enjoy it: I do. "Melody Time" is super cute. I also think "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad" is just a good film. "Salduos Amigos" and "The Three Caballeros" are possibly the two worst Disney films ever.

(The next 2 eras tied for me. I think these eras they learned a lot from; however, they just aren't as strong as the other eras.)

6- Experimental (1999- 2008)
     Gold Era (1937-1942)
     both score a solid 3.0/5

First up Experimental era:

(Fantasia 2000, Dinosaur, Atlantis, The Emporor's New Groove, Lilo and Stitch, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons and Bolt)

This era might be the most unique era because they were really learning a lot about computer animation but still holding true to hand-drawn animation. Films like "Atlantis" and "Treaure Planet" (other than "The Black Cauldron") are some of the most unique films ever for Disney. While I do applaud that effort I think this era just lacks a lot of charm. "Dinosaur" starts off strong and ends strong but the whole 45-ish minutes in the middle I am not a fan of. "Brother Bear" has awesome music; but, I think the storyline doesnt move like I would like it to. "Lilo and Stitch" is adorable; but I think the chase scene toward the end is too long. "The Emporor's New Groove" is my favorite in this era. "Chicken Little" and "Home on the Range" are just funny and that gives them some bonus points. "Meet the Robinsons" is always one that I've liked but can never figure out why: it really isnt that amazing.

Next is Gold era:

(Snow White and the Seven Drawfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo and Bambi)

This era started Disney and while it's short, it's full of charm! These were the first five animated films ever and everyone has a learning curve right? These movies aren't bad; but, there are much better on the horizon!
____________________________________________________
(The next 2 eras I think have lots of charm and none of these films are inherently bad and rank most as 3; but, I would only rank 2 as out standing 5 star films; although I did rank a few as 4 star films.)

4- Bronze (1970-1988) 3.25/5

(The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective and Oliver and Company)

"The Black Cauldron" is the most unique Disney film ever and the odd ball out in this era. The rest of the films have a lot of charm and always make me smile! However, other than "The Rescuers" I think they just fall a little short. Most people group these 8 films together; however, I think you could really put them into 2 or 3 eras because these films are quite different from one another in style and storytelling alone. Some debate the first 4 and the second 4 should be in 2 different eras.

3- Revival (2009- Present) 3.5/5

(The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck it Ralph, Frozen, Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Moana, Ralph Breaks the Internet and Frozen 2)

This era brought a lot of attention and spark back to Disney. "The Princess and the Frog" is a throwback to the Reinassance classics with many of the team returning for this film. Then you have "Tangled" and "Frozen" "Moana" and "Frozen 2" for princess films. I enjoy all of these. You have a rock solid cast of films directed toward boys as well "Wreck it Ralph", "Big Hero 6", "Zootopia" and "Ralph Breaks the Inernet." are all great as well. "Winnie the Pooh" is kind of the odd film out here but is oozing with charm. Some also debate that with two sequels in a row they are now out of this era and they belong in a new era.

(I really enjoy both these eras so much and my rankings are super close. I myself was interested to see how these two would turn out! It's too close to call, so I'm gonna give it a tie.)

1-  Silver (1950-1967) Reinassance (1989-1999)- 4.0/5

I like the Silver era for the charm and the Reinassance era for the music!

First let's talk about the Silver era.

(Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone and The Jungle Book)

When "Alice in Wonderland", "The Jungle Book" "The Sword and the Stone", and "Sleeping Beauty" are your four worst films from an era you're doing something correctly. These films are pretty good: I like them all. "101 Dalmatians" and "Cinderella" have always been some of my favorites and always will be. "Peter Pan" and "Lady and the Tramp" are really cute and ones I always adore. When I think classic Disney I think this era more than any other. The charm is dripping in essentially every second in all these films!

Last but not least, the Reinassance era.
(The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan and Tarzan)

If you grew up in the 90's this will probably be your favorite era. I mean who doesn't love films? Not one is bad! And while most kids don't like Hunchback many adults do. The soundtracks are amazing from this era! This era just has a lot of magic floating around while you watch these films! Are they as charming as The Silver Era? Maybe not; however, the music makes it tied!
