The Disney Movie List

My roommate Bethany and I started watching Disney movies chronological. We are finally in the 2000's, and it's been a wild ride. Starting with 1937 and "Snow White and the Seven Drawfes" we slowly crept through the 40's and made our way to the this millennium. Watching the movies in order made us noticed trends, transitions, similar styles and even when animation was recycled.

It has been really cool to see the slow changes from each film and how the Disney animation studio evolved thoughtout the years. 1937 to 2020 is 83 years of movies. Granted we are just under 70 years in the process and to say Cinema has changed a lot is an understatement; however, it's premise has stayed the same. Essentially every movie is "Introduce a lovable character, show the conflict and make the audience root for the main character on their journey to overcome the challenge!" While this aspect hasn't changed, how movies flow and the style have and this aspect has made the journey very interesting.

I've realized several things during this cinematic journey:

The first cool thing was seeing some of these films again after many years, seeing some for the first time ever or all the way through for the first time (only before seeing pieces).

Another neat thing was seeing how our opinions have changed about films from child to adulthood. For example, "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" was a film as a child I didn't like: it's very dark for a kids movie; however, as an adult it's one of my favorites.

Sometimes opinions don't change "One Hundred and One Dalmatians" has always been a favorite and still is. There are other movies where I liked more as a child and now I go "Why did I like that?"

Another thing we've noticed is animated films age better than live-action. Live action can be out of date much quicker where animated gives a film more of a timeless look.

But the best thing of all was watching all these movies with Bethany. Bethany and I have known each other 6 years and have almost always gotten along smashingly. So taking this journey with a great friend has been and continues to be fun.

Maybe watching all the Disney movies in order isn't your thing BUT I do recommend taking on a challenge you want to do with a friend, because trust me, it's fun!
