My 2 Cents: A 60 Day Blogging Journey (53/60): Go The Distance

No I'm not gonna tell you to run a marathon. (Although, I would support that decision!) I'm talking about the song, from the Disney animated film Hercules. Hercules is not a favorite Disney movies ever; but, the music is great, particularly the song "Go The Distance". The song has spoken to me twice and it said two completely different things! The Disney World firework show "Wishes" plays part of an instrumental version of this song! The first time I was in the parks at night after I started working there I watched the show and the song spoke to me and said "Welcome!" I mean the song says
"a voice keeps saying this where I'm meant to be!"

How can that not welcome someone who had wanted to work there for years and never thought it would be a possibility?

      The opening line is:
"I have often dreamed of a far off place where a great, warm welcome would be waiting for me!"

That song was talking about working at Disney World (to me anyway!) I had visited and it felt familiar and comfortable; but, working there truly made it feel like a 2nd home! I had applied to work there before and received no after no (but I believe it was all timing). The next part of the song describes how I felt when I kept applying.

"I'll be there someday, I can go the distance. I will find my way if I can be strong. I know every mile would be worth my while. When I go the distance, I'll be right where I belong."

And boy did I felt like I belonged, I made great friends. Many of whom I am still in contact with. Although, many of my family members didn't really love the fact I'd be moving to Florida and working for Disney, I wasn't worried! I wanted this and the next verse fit what I was feeling!

"Down an unknown road to embrace my fate. Though that road may wander, it will lead me to you. And a thousand years would be worth the wait. It might take a lifetime but somehow I'll see it through. And I won't look back, I can go the distance. And I'll stay on track, no I won't accept defeat. It's an uphill slope. But I won't lose hope, 'till I go the distance. And my journey is complete."

I knew working for Disney would be worth the wait! I started to lose hope; but, I decided to apply again and that's when it happened! When you reach the goal, sometimes you can get distracted by other things. I was there to work. Sometimes I didn't want to in an exciting place like Orlando it can be hard to stay focused at times. I wanted to call off and go play. The next part is about when you reach your goal to stay focused.

"But to look beyond the glory is the hardest part For a hero's strength is measured by his heart. Like a shooting star, I will go the distance."

I kept this song in mind the whole time I was there; but, something changed. I was offered a chance to stay at least 4 more months and I thought about it. I had to make a decision by midnight. I decided to go with Bethany to Magic Kingdom to see the fireworks show! The firework show is at 10! Meaning when it was over I had less than two hours to decide. At 10 I still had no clue whether I was gonna stay or not. I was looking up in the sky watching the firework show. When the "Go The Distance" segment played and the song suddenly didn't seem welcoming. It spoke to me in a different way this time I heard "Go back to WV! Go back to college. Go teach!" When the show was over Bethany and I fought the crowd upstream like a salmon to watch "Celebrate the Magic" (We did this often and had became pros!) I told her that I had decided it was time to go live my other dream! It was the most bittersweet moment of my life! The timing of my entrance and exit at Disney were perfect and I wouldn't have it any other way!

Now I am back working for Disney and and excited to see what the future holds!

Okay my advice "Go the Distance" and if "a voice keeps saying this is where I, meant to be" listen. If it tells you move on 7 months later, then do that!

Like, comment and share! Tell me about a time you wanted to "Go the Distance" did you make it? Would you change it?
