Feeling at Home at: Camp
There are two places where I can go, see old friends and feel at home. They are 4H camp and church camp. I will talk about both.
The church camp I'm referring to is for families so there are always people I know from previous years. Whether it's people from my church, people I worked with in the cafeteria, pastors from other churches, some of my old friends parents/families there is always a friendly face. There is also church services to attend about 30 in 8 days. This summer when I went I attended many services but there were 2 or 3 I planned on attending and didn't make it too because I saw friends and wanted to catch up. I thought it was important to do so.
The 4-H camp has campers. Some of my former students, or kids I know from being out and about in the community, other jobs, volunteering in schools ect. Then people a few years younger than me that are now counselors. A few people my age. Then of course the counselors when I was a camper that has now become my friends. It's another place that makes me feel at home.
Even though I missed a lot of these functions for several years I was usually able to attend in evenings for a couple of hours (except 2014 when I was in Florida), I have never felt out of place there. I was always welcomed with open arms. I was able to attend basically the full capacity the last two years of both and to know I was greeted by familiar faces and met new people was the coolest thing that really validated my feelings toward both of these places I adore.
