"You've been Cancelled, Theodore!"

When I was little I always had paper and was scribbling 'words' before I could write. I loved reading and thought writers were the coolest people. Of those cool people, Dr Seuss may have been my favorite. I always admired his creativity and zany fun. In 2021, that creativity is being frowned upon because of alleged racial undertones.

When I was in 1st grade I was the only 1st grader who entered the young writers contest. I wrote about a dream I had about meeting the cast of Gilligan's Island. (😂 I was weird okay.)

Fast forward to High School, my first 'job' was writing as a freelancer for the teen section of the largest newspaper in WV . I learned a lot during this time. I wrote an article about my favorite Seuss books for his birthday. (Yeah I know I was in high school and I probably got made fun of by high schoolers all over the state but I didnt care.)

In college we were told that we could write about whatever topic we wanted. I wrote about historical figures/ events in Seuss books. I found articles, went to the library and got biographies about him. I sifted through a lot of material. It seems to me Theodore Geisel despised the events of the Holocaust. Many think at least 2 of his books were about it. However, in my research, I did not find one thing that seemed racist about him or in his books.

To cancel Dr Seuss does a disservice to children everywhere. He is someone who sparks creativity, imagination and a love of reading (and for me writing.) I am so tired of the far-left canceling anything and everything. In life everyone gets their feelings hurt. You can either let it break you down or get up and say something like 'This stinks but tomorrow is a new day, so let's move forward.' You cannot change the past but you can learn from it! To those who want to censor books from children grow up!

You are totally correct. Cancel one book then more will follow. 1984 is alive and well.
