Ranking the Harry Potter Film and Books!

In fourth grade I read the first three Harry Potter films and then the next year I saw the first movie. I thought the storyline and characters were fun!

First let's rank the books!

11- Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindlewald

This movie has too much going on and nothing I am interested in. I do not really care for Johnny Depp in this role. (I prefer Jude Law.)

10- Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore

I like this movie better slightly more. I think it was a little too long. I did like the return to Hogwarts but wanted to see more. I did like how it was kind of a political thriller type movie. I liked Jude Law and how you get to meet McGonagall. However, I thought it was a little boring and drawn out in parts. I do think it was more focused than the latter.

9- Harry Potter Deathly Hallows Pt 1

The sad part of this is its all build up and not a whole lot happens. Coupled with Pt 2 it’s a much better film; but if you just look at this, it drags. But that happens with every split film.

8- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I know this is controversial. I just don’t enjoy this movie. It’s not bad; I just don’t like the idea of the Tri-Wizard tournament. It’s dangerous and makes me cringe. I do like seeing the other schools show up and the dance is neat.

7- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

While this is one of my favorite books and I think this movie is too long and could be cut down about 30 minutes. I think it tries to be too close to the book.

6- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Again, this is one of my favorite books in the series and I think the movie looks way too dark and drab. I like the content of the movie but the direction and cinematography is kind of ugly.

5- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I think the director change was needed for this movie. It was a nice transition of light-hearted to darker and I enjoy this movie everytime I watch. I love the knight bus scene. It loses me a bit in the time-travel in towards the end.

4- Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them –

I really enjoy this movie and was excited for this prequel saga. I liked the new characters and the storyline. Newt is one of my favorite characters in the Wizarding World. I feel like this story was needed.

3- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix-

I like seeing Harry take responsibility and step into a leadership role when Hogwarts is taken over by the Ministry. It is a nice change of pace and Umbridge is evil. Who doesn’t love to despise her?

2- Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone-

This was the perfect intro to the wizarding world, and I would put it at number 1 except the acting isn’t that great from the kids yet. They needed some time to learn from the amazing cast on set. This movie hits all the nostalgia.

1-  1-   Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt .2

What a way to close out this series! Watching this movie in theatres was perfect in every way. The director gave the fans what they wanted and needed to this amazing series!

Now let's get to the book rankings – (Ranking 5 to 2 was extremely difficult for me.)

7- Order of Phoenix- Liked the premise but the book was way too long, which is why I think the movie worked well. The movie took the highlights and presented them quickly. It took me like 18 months to read this book. I just wasn’t into it.

6- Goblet of Fire- Has never been a favorite the book or the movie.

5- Sorcerer’s Stone- It was nice intro to the world but a little slow at times.

4- Deathly Hallows- I enjoyed it a lot. It was nice closure to the world.

3- Prisoner of Azkaban- I think if it weren’t for the time-travel stuff this would be my #2.

2 – Chamber of Secrets- I have read it the most. I just really enjoy the style of writing and it feels nostalgic.

1 – Half- Blood Prince- I read it in 3 days. I couldn’t put it down. I had to know what was coming next!

What do you think?
