Freeport, FL: 6 months and counting!
6 months ago, I moved to the panhandle of Florida. I have family up here and I was over how much Walt Disney World had changed in the last few years. I needed new, yet familiar. I have never lived near ocean; but I did grow up in a small town and Freeport is that. Now I am back to a place that feels like home even though I don't know a whole lot of people yet. But it is so nice to be close to some family! I live 4 miles from my cousin Jake and if that's not awesome I don't know what is!
I don't want you to think I am ungrateful for my time in Orlando. I learned a lot about myself in my time in Orlando. I learned strengths, weaknesses and grew up a lot. I am a completely different person than I was when I moved to Orlando. I think most of the changes are good. I am definitely less naive. I was incredibly naive to almost everything. Now, while still naive at times, I am more realistic. I learned other things about myself which is a good thing. I made some WONDERFUL friends! I am grateful for my time. I was just ready to move on. Most people don't stay in Orlando over 10 years. I feel like it's a transitional city.I have been here 6 months I am starting to know faces/names around town, like a couple places I frequent. I work with some wonderful people! I like working 4 days a week currently! It's a nice change of pace!
Another cool thing is I got an AMC stubs pass. I get to see up to 3 movies a week for $25/month. If I go 2 or 3 times a month, it's worth it. And I am a big movie buff! I went to 5 movies in July.
I started attending a small church. I like it a lot. There are several people in their 30's which is nice. The pastor is one year older than me. It is nice in this life to have a pastor you can relate to on a few levels. I signed up for a Men's Bible Study group that starts in September. I am also serving with Children's church about twice a month! Today was my 2nd time working with the children. It was a wonderful 75 minutes and am looking forward to doing it again and more consistently! I am looking forward to being a part of this growing campus!
We will see what the next 6 month holds here in Freeport! I do have a goal to start writing a book! I am looking forward to getting my 'sea' legs here and settle down for a while and finding a sense of community that I missed from Orlando because of so many people constantly coming and going. I believe with all my heart God has me here for a reason!
