Ranking and Reviewing All Movies I Watched 2025: Quarter 2
Note: * Early screening ** Enhanced Format (Imax/Dolby/BigD)
17) On Swift Horses (R)
This film wasn’t bad: the acting was great. The script left things to be desired. The plot was a little muddled and by the end I just didn’t care. The only thing that kept me from walking out was the acting. Truly the acting was stellar.
16) The
Last Rodeo (PG)
This film had solid acting and a decent script, but the
pacing left me wanting it to be over sooner. I liked the character arc of the main character and I also liked the main character's best friend. Plus, it is not a genre I enjoy
necessarily.
15) King
of Kings (PG)
This film was a cute adaptation for kids about Jesus’ life
and ministry; however, to keep kid’s attention I think it needed to be a little
more action packed and shorter. It is accurate to the Bible. So for that I give
it some kudos. The voice acting was fine. The animation was OK. It is not on
the same level as Prince of Egypt, I will tell you that.
14) Karate
Kid: Legends (PG-13)
No Karate Kid film will ever come close to the original. This story I think was too focused on side characters and a pizza place rather than Karate itself. I think the acting was OK, although at times a little cheesy (and I don’t mean the pizza.)
13) Lilo
and Stitch (PG) **
This movie had some cute creative liberties from the original. The script
tweaks were cute. The acting was OK. The scenery of Hawaii was beautiful; however,
I will watch the cartoon probably before this one again. I didn't think I would like the changes that were taking place until the very end, then I said 'aww.'
12)
Jurassic World: Rebirth (PG-13) *
I enjoyed this film to most of the other JW/JP films; however, you can’t beat the original. The acting was pretty solid. The script was decent. I got to see this early as part of AMC’s Screen Unseen. The crowd got very excited when they realized it was the new Jurassic Park film early, which made viewing it fun. I enjoyed this one a lot more than the last two Jurassic films.
11) Thunderbolts (PG-13)
The new group of Avengers are sorta misfits. I think I would fit in more with this crew than the original; however, that didn’t mean I like their movie better. I thought it was a decent script with decent acting. The action was great and the special effects were fun. I liked the group of misfits but not enough to want to see a sequel.
10) How
to Train Your Dragon (PG)**
I think this movie was a nice live-action adaptation of this cartoon classic. The script was pretty much the original animated film. The acting was good. The costumes and set design took this up a few spots for me. However, like most live-action remakes I would rather just rewatch the cartoon.
9) Ballerina
(R)
This John Wick spin-off (to accompany specifically John Wick
3) was a nice entry. I think it was better than #2 but not as good as the other
three John Wick films. The acting and script were enjoyable. I like the John
Wick films; but, I am not a huge fan of any of the films.
8) The Accountant
2 (R) **
This movie was a solid sequel. It was funny but less serious than the original. The acting and script was good. The chemistry between the two brothers made this a really enjoyable watch. If you liked the first one you gotta see it. If you haven't seen the first one, what are you doing? The plots of both movies are really good.
7) Shadow
Force (R)
This movie’s soundtrack was a lot of Lionel Richie and The Commodores which made me happy! The script and acting were solid. I liked the characters and was very glad I watched. The storyline moved well and I think you should check it out.
6) Amateur
(PG-13)
This film was good. I really was surprised it ranked this low. I think it was because this type of film isn’t my normal go-to. The acting was good and the script was really good. Rami Malik's character was surprising in how clever and unassuming he was.
5) A
Minecraft Movie (PG)
I have only played Minecraft once for about 5 minutes, so I
wasn’t necessarily interested in this film until the reviews kept coming out
saying how solid it was. I enjoyed the storyline. It was funny, engaging and
brought a smile to my face. The acting was a little campy; however, I think
that is warranted for a project like this.
4) F1 (PG-13)*/**
This was a surprise high entry for me. I just didn’t expect to like this one as much. I really did though. I liked the storyline. The cinematography was incredibly creative. The acting was good. The script was solid. It was just firing on all cylinders and the plot throw lots of curves. (No pun intended.)
3) Elio
(PG)**
Pixar is known for great storytelling. While this isn’t nearly as good as some older Pixar films I really enjoyed it. I liked the story. I liked the characters and their journey. I loved the villain and his son! It was a good story about friends and family. I can't wait to watch again!
2) Sinners
(R)
I was not planning to see this one at all; however, when the
reviews were above 95% for both audiences and critics, I decided to check it
out. It is incredible! It is so creative. The storyline is amazing. The
costumes and set designs are beautiful. The acting top-tier. This movie is not
my genre so I am not sure I will ever watch again.
1) Warfare (R)
This movie was so unique. It is one continual long scene which is super creative. I don’t think I have ever watched a movie that doesn’t jump even a couple hours. The acting was great. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time! The sound mixing was insane. I have only heard something like that on Broadway. I don’t typically enjoy war movies and for that reason I am not sure I will ever watch again.
Overall thoughts:
The 2nd quarter of films were much better than quarter 1 and I think it will be hard to top, which doesn't leave me much hope for quater 3. Like I said, my least favorite movie this quarter had amazing acting.
