Reviewing and Ranking All Movies I Watched in 2025: Quarter 3
9) Sketch- PG
This movie had a cute, heartwarming ending. I think the young actors did a nice job; but, I thought it was weird for a PG film. Fair amount of ‘light’ cursing and sort of scary. I didn’t understand some of the choices made for a ‘family’ film. I think this movie would’ve been much better as PG-13. Disclaimer: I didn’t dislike any of the films in this quarter but only loved one.
8) Light of the World- PG
In this
Biblical event film, it follows the book of John and is pretty accurate. The
animation is fine. I just didn’t find it particularly exciting. I do think it
would be great to show any clip of this movie to go along with your Sunday School
lessons. The studio did a nice job with giving an accurate depiction of the
scripture and presenting it to children.
7) The Senior- PG
This
real-life film follows a guy who is 59 years old coming back to finish his
college degree and play his ‘senior’ year on the football team. It was nice;
but it was a little slow starting. The story was nice; but, not particularly
exciting until the last third of the film. The acting was good and the
storyline uplifting.
6) Caught Stealing- R
This movie is an interesting action/mystery movie. The acting was good and the story was nice; but it just wasn’t my type of film. The story follows a former baseball player that has set out due to an injury and you keep seeing flashbacks of that. I enjoyed this storyline, and it kept my attention well.
5) Fantastic Four: First Steps- PG-13
Of all
the Fantastic Four films, I think this is the best one; but, it is still not my
forte. I liked the mid-century vibes. The acting and script were good. I
appreciated how good it was especially when you compare it to other FF films. I
enjoyed this cinematic ride way more than I anticipated.
4) Freakier Friday- PG
This
sequel was hilarious. I laughed so much. The chemistry between Jamie Lee Curtis
and Lindsay Lohan is even better than the first time around. However, there
were some flaws. I prefer the first one (not the original) to this sequel. I
loved that basically all the cast were back even smaller characters.
3) Bad Guys 2- PG
This sequel
was adorable! It also had quite a twist. I didn’t expect to like this movie as
much as I did because while I think the first one is cute; but, I just didn’t
see how they would progress the story. The animation was great and so was the
voice acting. I liked the new characters and the new plot. I laughed a lot.
2) Superman- PG-13
I like
Superman movies, but they aren’t my favorites. While the script may be better
in ‘Man of Steel’ I think this one is more rewatchable. I liked Nicholas who
portrayed Lex Luther a lot. I think he stole the show. Having said that, I
think all the other actors held their own. The storyline was compelling and
kept me interested all the way through. Usually, superhero films lose me about
30-45 minutes in and I have to fight to finish. Not the case here.
I did not expect to like this film as much as I did. I really liked it. The acting was great and so was the story. It kept me on the edge of my seat. I did not see the twist coming AT ALL. It sort of blew my mind. I give it a 9/10. I do have some nit-picky things with it but I will overlook them. I really recommend this film to anyone who like mystery with some action and even a little hint of romance.
Extra movie: 75th anniversary screening of Sunset Boulevard. I knew this movie is apparently highly regarded; but I don’t see the appeal. It was a mystery film and that I sort of liked but the rest was an odd story.
Overall thoughts: Of the 9 films I sort of liked all
9. 6 were good. 3 I really enjoyed but only one I loved.
