10 of My Favorite Films of the Last Decade (2016-2025)
I went through and looked at films of the last decade because my blog is now a decade old. (This blog post idea comes from my pastor Sean, actually!) While these are not necessarily my 10 favorite movies of the last 10 years they are my favorite from each year. Most years had stiff competition, and one did not. (Looking at you 2018.) Let’s get started with maybe my favorite of the last ten years.
2016: Hidden Figures- PG
I
think this movie is excellent. Great acting and compelling true events that
needed told. I think Octavia Spencer is one of the best actresses around and
the cast supporting her were great as well.
2017: The Greatest Showman –
PG
I
love the music and the story (although not completely true.) I like the dancing
and think Hugh Jackman and the rest of the cast are amazing. I still listen to
the soundtrack frequently.
2018: Spiderman: Into the
Spider-verse- PG
While
this is not necessarily my favorite movie, I love the new animation style that was
set by this movie and has carried over to many others now. I prefer the sequel
in this series and ready for the third. Where ya at?
2019: A Beautiful Day in the
Neighborhood- PG
Growing up I watched Mister Rogers a lot and enjoyed it. I thought Tom Hanks did a great job stepping into this role of Mister (Fred) Rogers. This movie made me cry at the end. Fred Rogers just seemed like a beautiful soul and it was nice stepping into this world as an adult.
2020: Onward- PG
This movie was released right before the pandemic and as a result has sadly always flown under the radar (especially for Pixar) which makes me sad. I like it a lot and think it’s the best Pixar original since ‘Ratatouille’. The storys of the two brothers makes me smile.
2021: Cruella- PG
The
animated ‘One Hundred and One Dalmatians’ is probably my favorite movie of all
time and I also love Emma Stone so when this movie came out I rushed to theatres.
Then went back two more times. I loved the sets, the costumes, the music, the
storyline everything.
2022: The Batman- R
I
am not a fan of Robert Pattison and was not looking forward to the movie but I
went to see it because Batman is my favorite superhero and I am glad I did.
This is my favorite Batman film: I liked the detective aspect that you often don’t
get as much in the other films. The whole cast are incredible!
2023: Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant-
R
War
movies are not my genre; however, not only will I say this is a solid film it
is one of my favorites of all time. It is more of a story of friendship. The story
moves well. It is intense. I really enjoy
it and watch it way more than I ever anticipated. This movie slid under the
radar but Jake Gyllenhaal did an excellent job! (Don’t confuse it with the
scary nun movie.)
2024: One Life- PG
I
enjoyed learning the story of Nicholas Winton in this film. I liked the
flashback scenes so much. The cast excelled at telling this story. Both actors portraying
Nicholas did an excellent job! I got to see this movie as a surprise screening.
I didn’t know what was playing until it started. This movie slid under the
radar but it was interesting seeing Helena Bonham Carter in this role of the
mother.
2025: Relay- R
This
movie flew under the radar but the cast were great and I enjoyed the storyline.
It is very suspenseful but not scary. The story follows a guy who works
undercover and uses the Relay service for hard of hearing/ deaf to maintain anonymity.
Out of 52 movies I saw in 2025 this was #1.
Now let’s rank these 10 films:
10- Into the Spider-verse
9- A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
8- One Life
7- The Batman
6- Relay
5- Cruella
4- The Greatest
Showman
3- Onward
2- Guy Ritchie’s
The Covenant
1-
Hidden Figures
Thanks
for reading!
